How to find a new way out for the domestic soybean industry?

Soybean is the staple food in China and even the world. China has listed the soybean industry as a key development industry for agricultural products, and there is a significant gap between soybean processing and imported products. Therefore, the processing technology of soy products and the cultivation of soybean varieties need to be greatly improved.

The General Office of the State Council once issued the "Outline of China's Food and Nutrition Development (2014-2020)", which clearly listed soybeans as a key product for development. It requires fully leveraging the advantages of traditional soybean resources in China, strengthening research on soybean germplasm resources and new variety cultivation, supporting the development of the domestic soybean industry, strengthening scientific research on soybean production and deep processing, implementing technological transformation of traditional soybean products, developing new types of soybean food, and promoting large-scale production of soybean products.

Nowadays, China's soybean industry has lost its voice in import channels, processing and manufacturing, and its external dependence on soybeans exceeds 80%; The key indicators such as domestic soybean production and oil yield are inferior to imported soybeans. In such an environment, how to revitalize the domestic soybean industry is a realistic and severe issue.

Liu Denggao, Executive Vice President of the China Soybean Industry Association, believes that instead of comparing production with imported soybeans, it is better to compare "background" and "quality". Although there is currently no consensus on the safety of genetically modified soybeans internationally, as ordinary consumers, they are more willing to pay higher prices for non genetically modified foods. In the United States, regular soybeans are 30% to 50% more expensive than genetically modified soybeans. If domestic soybeans can be used in a good market, domestic soybeans are not enough. Currently, the domestic processing of soybeans has reached over 9 million tons, and the export of soybeans has also exceeded 3 million tons, adding up to over 12 million tons. However, the production is only over 12 million tons, and it is about to become a shortage.

The data shows that the soybean protein content in China can reach over 40%, and soybean protein is popular in the European and American markets, accounting for 50% of the international food and soybean product market share. At a time when domestic soybean oil and fat processing enterprises are facing numerous difficulties, the development of domestic soybean protein processing enterprises is still thriving.
